Posted on 29 Jul, 2024
This week saw the grand opening of the Alice Springs Netball Court Reconstruction at the Pat Gallagher Netball Centre.
Netballers can now enjoy playing on new surfaces, with lighting, seating for 50 people, two new benches and shade shelters, picnic tables, security fencing and landscaping. With the netball courts now up to competition standard, this will allow for greater play for all ages and ability levels. Ensuring the Pat Gallagher Stadium remains a hub for the community for years to come.
This project was a joint project between the Alice Springs Town Council, the Australian Government and the Northern Territory Government. The $2.3 million upgrade was made possible with $1 million from the Albanese Government, $1 million from the Alice Springs Town Council, $250,000 from the Northern Territory Government and $50,000 from the Alice Springs Netball Association.
The project created 15 jobs during construction.
“The completion of this Netball Court Reconstruction project is a huge win for Alice Springs,” Mayor Matt Paterson said.
“As an active, sports-loving community, we are thrilled to see projects that enhance our health and wellbeing.”
“It’s great to continue to shoot goals with the Australian Government and Northern Territory Government to ensure Alice Springs maintains top notch amenities. Council is committed to continued improvements in quality of life for our town.
“We welcome investment in our thriving community, and will continue to work with other levels of government to increase liveability in our town.”
