Posted on 06 Jun, 2023
The Australian Ballet is set to visit Alice Springs in June and will be hosted by none other than your Library!
Known for their athletic, authentic, bold and expansive style, Australia’s national ballet company is internationally acclaimed and composed of the country’s most talented dancers. With a value for open-mindedness, fresh thinking, and passion, the Australian Ballet is sure to bring a graceful twist to Alice Springs through a series of free workshops.
On Thursday 8 June, the Australian Ballet Education and Outreach team will deliver free dance workshops to preschool aged children and seniors in Alice Springs!
The ‘Dance Story’ workshops for preschool aged children between 3 and 5 years will be taking place from 10:00 – 10:45 am, 11:00 – 11:45 am, and 12:15 – 1:00 pm at the Library. These workshops will give students the unique opportunity to explore The Story of Pomi and Gobba through dance and are designed to be accessible to all children regardless of learning styles or physical abilities. No previous dance experience is required to enjoy these classes!
Furthermore, the ‘Dance for Seniors’ workshop will begin from 2:00 pm at the Library and embody the grace and beauty of ballet. This class will welcome students into the ballet family and encourage physical activity, musicality and expression while providing the potential for a variety of health benefits. Designed to ensure there are options for everyone, regardless of ability or experience, the dance workshop will centre around the characters and music of Romeo & Juliet and includes options for using a chair, the support of a partner or moving independently.
Fear not- no leotard or ballet shoes are required! Simply wear clothes that you are most comfortable moving in.
To register for one of these workshops please RSVP to Library@astc.nt.gov.au or call 8950 0555.
