At a ceremony to mark ‘International Day of People with a Disability', Mayor Ryan will today announce the winners of the 2012 Mayoral Awards.
“I’d like to congratulate all the finalists and winners in this years Mayoral Awards, they are all very worthy recipients.” Said Mayor Ryan
The Champion Award - acknowledges a person with or without a disability who has been an advocate for the rights and well-being of people with a disability. The finalists are:
- Olivia Johnson, Ron Guascoine, Jules Sumner
And the winner is - Ann Ireland
The Noteworthy Award - which acknowledges a person with a disability who has made a noteworthy contribution to the community. The finalists are:
- Andrew Harrison, Andrew Godkin, Douglas Thompson
And the winner is – Murray Stewart
The Mayoral Awards have been held annually since 2009 to highlight the contributions made by individuals with disabilities and by individuals for the disability community.
The guest speaker is Libby Kosmala OAM an 11 time Australian paralympian (1972- 2012), a 9 time gold medallist (13 medals in total), and the Oldest Australian to compete at the 2012 London Paralympics.
