    If you travel north from Port Augusta on the Stuart Highway, you are kept company by the Flinders Ranges, blue and gold and red, for many kilometres. The ranges, with their folds and shadows, are mesmerising. But to your west, an equally mysterious landscape begins to expand. It’s treeless, stony, with hard-capped tabletop hills, and huge stretches of sky. It’s Kokatha country. Lake Gardiner National Park, Island Lagoon and Lake Hart. This is where the story of Alan Phillips’ new painting exhibition ‘Lake Hart and Beyond’ has its origins. Exhibition opening Sunday 8 September 2024 11am, by Fran Kilgariff AM

    The Desert Song Festival is returning in 2024: Shorter, Sharper, Brighter! DSF 2024 will be as creative, as diverse, as innovative and as enjoyable as it has ever been. For 6 glorious days, 17-22 September the Central Desert will again reverberate to the sounds of choirs and musicians from across Australia and visiting international musicians. The NIMA award-winning Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir in Concert presenting Arrkanala Lyilhitjika Since presenting their first concert at Desert Song Festival in 2015, the choir has toured across Australia including performances at the Sydney Opera House and the Melbourne Concert Hall (twice), the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC and the Castleton Festival in Virginia. This choir has been described as a “stunning Choir presenting a unique program that showcases language and culture of 60,000 years of human occupation of Central Australia!” The Choir has not presented a complete concert at DSF since 2015. This return is by popular demand and promises to be a ‘Blockbuster’ Opening Night event, presented at Central Australia’s premiere performance venue – Araluen Arts Centre Theatre.
