We’ll Dance on the Ash of the Apocalypse – Desert Festival

    Sep 26th - Oct 2nd 2021

This evocative play follows the story of a young couple living in a world ravaged by climate change. They are faced with a terrifying prospect, an unplanned pregnancy. Together they must decide whether they can bring a defenceless child into a seemingly hopeless world. This story weaves between present and past, aiming to fuel the ongoing discussion on global warming through love of humanity, hope against odds and passion for timely action to create the future we desire. Written by Alice Springs-born Melissa-Kelly Franklin, this piece has been described as ‘original and moving’ and ‘an outstanding piece of theatre’ by its original Bathway Theatre audience in London. Directed by Julia Billington and performed by Jac Marriott and Dan Milne.

he Pungency of Rock Featuring Gurun - Desert Festival

    Oct 2nd 2021, 9:30pm

Despite efforts to bury it, the stench of good sound and resilience is hard to cover! The Pungency of Rock is a live music, visual and DJ experience, highlighting elements of Southeast Asian music – in particular garage and surf rock, which experienced suppression under certain Southeast Asian regimes. The Pungency of Rock will feature a live set by Gurun, Mparntwe's own female-fronted rock band, precluded by the screening of the documentary Not Easy Rock ‘n Roll and a DJ set showcasing a collection of Southeast Asian surf and garage rock classics and new revivals. Examples include songs by Dengue Fever (Cambodia) and Dara Puspita (Indonesia). The Pungency of Rock Featuring Gurun Totem Theatre Saturday 2nd October - 9.30pm

Aviation Movie Mini Fest - Centenary 1st Plane Landing in Alice Springs

    Oct 3rd 2021

Movies to celebrate centenary flight... The first flight from Melbourne to Alice Springs, 100 years ago this October, was made by a passionate young aviator – Frank Briggs – then aged 27, in a de Havilland-4 owned by his employer, Clement de Garis. His mechanic was Alfred (George) Bailey. Adventurer, Francis Birtles was a passenger. The trip took ten days. However, before they could return the aviators had to wait a number of weeks for their fuel supply to arrive by camel train! The Central Australian Aviation Museum is hosting a program of celebration events between 2 – 5 October 2021 to mark the milestone. Details can be found on the Museum website. centralaustralianaviationmuseum.org.au where you can also read an edited version of Briggs’ diary.
