Todd Mall Revitalisation completion and celebration

Posted on 17 Jul, 2013

Alice Springs Town Council is very pleased to announce that the highly anticipatedToddMallrevitalisation project completion will be officially celebrated this Saturday 20 July from 9:00am.

Mayor Damien Ryan said the project has been a long term vision for Council and it’s a great honour to celebrate its completion.

“The upgrades have given the Mall a uniqueAlice Springsidentity by highlighting local cultural, historic and natural features”, said Mayor Ryan.

“The design provides greater space and safety for all users of the CBD, including seating, shade, free wi-fi, bins, lighting, water bubblers, bicycle racks, generous footpaths, space for al fresco dining, and access for people with disabilities.

“The re-opening of the road at the northern end of the Mall allows locals and visitors to be delivered right into the heart of the town, contributing to the enlivening of the CBD.

“Key features of the two projects include the Biodiversity Corridor linking the Mall to the Todd River which also has highlights such as the Riverbank Garden, Cascade Feature and Rainwater Reflection Pan. The Moth Shade Structures spread throughout the upgrade are an indirect reference to the Yeperenye Caterpillar and the Caterpillar Seats have dual purposes of general seating and serving as play spaces/objects for children and young people.

“Thanks to Lyndon Frearson and his team at CAT projects and Susan Dugdale and Associates who made our vision the reality it is today.”

This $5 million dollar project would not have been possible without funding from the Northern Territory Government. To officially open the northern end of theToddMallthe Mayor will be joined by The Hon. Matt Conlan MLA, Northern Territory Minister forCentral Australia. A parade of vehicles from the classic era, quirkyAliceevents and emergency services will mark this significant event.

Mayor Ryan invites the whole community to Saturday’s celebration, "Come down and support your town and local businesses.”

“The celebration will be jam-packed full of prizes and giveaways, family entertainment, live music and dance performances, balloon twisting, a jumping castle, face painting, roving performers and also a fashion parade that will showcase the latest trends on offer.

“Make sure you take part in the Caterpillar Trail for your chance to win one of 45 x vouchers up to the value of $100 from participating businesses and entry to the major prize draw. The major prize draw includes two x $1000 gift vouchers and a holiday inAlicepackage which includes two nights accommodation, dinner both nights in top restaurants, transfers and surprise activities.
