Free TV drop off at the Regional Waste Management Facility
Posted on 11 Dec, 2013
The Alice Springs Town Council is offering to assist the community with the turn-off of analogue television broadcasting by having a free television drop-off day on Sunday 15 December at the Regional Waste Management Facility on Commonage Rd.
The offer applies to televisions ONLY and there is a maximum of three televisions per household.
All televisions such as CRTs, plasma, LCD and projection televisions can be dropped off.
The televisions will be recycled as part of a national scheme to reduce the number of televisions ending up in landfill.
Once dropped off, televisions are sent to a recycler where they are dismantled and separated into their different components including glass, plastic, iron, steel, aluminium, copper, even gold, platinum and silver.
Televisions also contain hazardous materials like lead and mercury so they need to be disposed of safely.
