The Alice Springs Inland Dragway will rumble with the thunderous sound of high horsepower vehicles taking part in this year’s Desert Nationals, Round 1 of the Australian Sportsman Series. Joining them will be current Australian champions who will be chasing the all-important bonus points on offer here in Alice Springs. Just some of the brackets on track will be Top Sportsman, Supercharged Outlaw, Junior Dragster, Junior Bike, Super Sedan, Modified Bike, Competition Bike, Modified Car, Street Car and Street Bike and it will be a high speed, action packed weekend for the whole family. If you have ever wondered about drag racing, now is the chance to come and see the power and speed on display with cars running over the 1/4mile (402m) in 6.5 secs at speeds of up to 210mph (338 km/h). With National records broken at past Desert Nationals events, the action is sure to be intense as competitors chase down more records and the elusive ANDRA Silver Christmas Tree trophy. Saturday will see all teams trying to put down their best times in the qualifying rounds starting from 11am and eliminations will follow on Sunday from 11am. All tickets include entry to the pits where you can get up close to the vehicles and meet the drivers/riders and their teams. Food and Bar facilities will be available.
