Library Bag Design Competition

As part of the Street Art Festival, Alice Springs Public Library is running a bag design competition! Submit your artwork for your chance to win a fabulous prize and see your design printed as the next Alice Springs Public Library bag!
Capture the essence of “Living in Alice” through your unique bag design.
From the breathtaking landscapes to the vibrant community spirit, let your creativity paint the colours of this remarkable town on our bags. Dive into the heart of Alice Springs and showcase its beauty through your art!
The designs will be judged with the following criteria:
- Uniquely Alice Springs
- Originality
- Inspirational
Competition details
The ‘Design a library bag’ competition commences at 8am on 1st March and concludes at 11:59pm on 14th April. The competition requires members of the public to submit original artwork responding to the competition theme “living in Alice” The winning entry will be produced on canvas tote bags that will be available for purchase at the Library.
This competition is open to the public, regardless if they’re a member or not.
Design
- The artwork must be an original piece created by the patron themselves.
- The design must fit inside an A4 printable area on the bag via digital printing, and it can be multi-coloured.
- You can download a printable template here or pick up a hard copy from the library
- The submitted artwork must be in a high-resolution format ready to print, preferably at 300dpi.
- Each file must be submitted in .JPG .PNG format and cannot exceed 5 MB in size.
- Designs must be original can be digital, drawn or painted works. The library has scanning facilities if your design needs to be scanned.
- The original and final artwork must be submitted to the library by the competition conclusion date and time, and be submitted via email: library@astc.nt.gov.au with the subject link “Living in Alice Competition” along with your name and age in the text body.
- For younger participants, they can be given an A4 template to make art, which will have their name and age.
Judging
Entries to the competition will be judged by a panel of library staff. The winner of the competition will be chosen by judges based on merit and fulfilment of the competition guidelines.
The winner will be notified by email in April
Prizes
- 0 – 5: Baby and Spice voucher
- 6 – 11: $100 Dustbowl voucher
- 12 – 17: $100 Jackson’s Art Supplies voucher
- 18+: $100 Alice Springs Cinema voucher
Use of winning artwork image
The artist will retain copyright of the artwork. Alice Springs Public Library reserves the right to use the winning artwork including, but not limited to, being reproduced in formats such as printed on tote bags and other collateral, displayed on library digital screens, published on the library website and reproduced in library communications.
The winning artwork image may also be used in future dated library promotional material and communications.
Agreement
In submitting this work to the competition, the artist will retain copyright to the artwork and agree to the following terms:
I (the artist) warrant that:
I give Alice Springs Public Library non-exclusive permission to reproduce the work in print and digitally on marketing collateral and merchandise and publish online, including over social media channels
I am the sole copyright owner of the work submitted, and it does not contain any copyright material belonging to others

The Young Territory Author Awards (YTAA) are an annual writing competition where entrants write and produce their own book. The Awards aim to inspire children and young people in the NT to explore their ideas and turn them into stories. The competition is open to all Territorians 18 years and under, and is organised in association with other public libraries and schools throughout the Northern Territory. Entries close 27 August 2024 and the winners will be announced at a presentation in Darwin in November 2024.
