Local Government elections are around the corner

Posted on 11 Jun, 2021

Have you ever considered nominating for Councillor? Now might be the perfect time!

Elections for the 14th Alice Springs Town Council are just around the corner and it’s time to consider putting your hand up and nominating.

Alice Springs residents will head to the polls on Saturday August 28 to elect nine Councillors, including a Mayor, but have you considered putting your name on the ballot?

Becoming a Councillor is your opportunity to influence the direction of services, programs, infrastructure and policies that guide and progress your town.

Councillors serve by listening, working together and making decisions on behalf of the community and our Council in Alice Springs represents one of the most diverse communities in the country.

You certainly do not need any local government experience to put your hand up for election, nor do you have to be a born and bred Territorian.

While it can be a challenging position, the role of Councillor also offers opportunities for personal growth.

Councillors must commit an average of 20 hours per month to the role but receive ongoing training and constant development opportunities. This gives Elected Members the tools to best serve the Alice Springs community.

If you care deeply about Mparntwe-Alice Springs and can spare some time over a four-year term, put your heart where your home is and consider nominating now.

Nominations open on Friday 16 July and close on Thursday 5 August. More candidate information can be found at www.lgant.asn.au
