The posi­tion

Work­ing with­in the Media Office locat­ed at the Civic Cen­tre the posi­tion is an inte­gral part of the Com­mu­ni­ca­tions Unit. This posi­tion will effec­tive­ly man­age rela­tion­ships with the media and the wider com­mu­ni­ty, pos­i­tive­ly influ­enc­ing Council’s image in the com­mu­ni­ty through strate­gic com­mu­ni­ca­tions, com­mu­ni­ty con­sul­ta­tions, edi­to­ri­als, arti­cles and con­tent for rel­e­vant pub­li­ca­tions. It will also effec­tive­ly work across Alice Springs Town Coun­cil busi­ness units with proac­tive inter­nal com­mu­ni­ca­tions methods.

Key Respon­si­bil­i­ties
Under the direc­tion of the Senior Media Offi­cer and in align­ment with Council’s val­ues, proac­tive­ly engage with media rep­re­sen­ta­tives to ensure pro­fes­sion­al and effec­tive com­mu­ni­ca­tions on behalf of Coun­cil; respond to media enquiries, pre­pare media releas­es, alerts, state­ments, speech­es and rel­e­vant presentations.

Assist the Senior Media Offi­cer in pro­vid­ing con­sid­ered com­mu­ni­ca­tions advice to Coun­cil Executive.

In col­lab­o­ra­tion with Mar­ket­ing and inter­nal stake­hold­ers, con­tribute to the devel­op­ment and main­te­nance of engag­ing and inclu­sive con­tent for Council’s online dig­i­tal plat­forms, as well as print and oth­er publications.

In col­lab­o­ra­tion with Mar­ket­ing, devel­op con­tent for Council’s dig­i­tal plat­forms (i.e. Face­book, Twit­ter, Insta­gram, Linkedln).

Ensure media net­works are main­tained by con­duct­ing research to iden­ti­fy oppor­tu­ni­ties for growth and efficiency.

Gen­er­ate edi­to­r­i­al con­tent for the Coun­cil Con­nects newslet­ter and assist with distribution.

Pro­duce pho­tos and videos to cre­ate effec­tive and inclu­sive con­tent for use across dig­i­tal plat­forms and in cor­po­rate publications.

Pro­vide proof­read­ing and edit­ing for Council’s inter­nal and exter­nal com­mu­ni­ca­tions, as required.

Ensure that Alice Springs Town Coun­cil cor­po­rate iden­ti­ty and val­ues are upheld in all communications.

Con­tribute to ana­lyt­ics report­ing and eval­u­a­tion of the effec­tive­ness of Council’s com­mu­ni­ca­tions activities


Selec­tion Criteria

Essen­tial
Excel­lent ver­bal, writ­ten com­mu­ni­ca­tion, nego­ti­a­tion, organ­i­sa­tion and plan­ning skills.

Expe­ri­ence with pho­tog­ra­phy and videography.

Excel­lent knowl­edge of the prin­ci­ples of effec­tive com­mu­ni­ca­tion, pub­lic rela­tions and pro­mo­tion, and media operations.

Exten­sive expe­ri­ence and skills in media, pub­lic rela­tions and communications.

Strong com­mit­ment to cus­tomer ser­vice, pro­fes­sion­al­ism, com­mu­ni­ty, enthu­si­asm and motivation.

Demon­strat­ed expe­ri­ence work­ing with­in a team.

Effec­tive time man­age­ment skills.
