Alice Springs Public Library temporary closure
Posted on 08 Jul, 2013
During commissioning and balancing of the new air-conditioner plant for our Library, Council discovered within an existing duct, there was encapsulated asbestos around a heating coil. Alice Springs Town Council immediately sealed the duct and closed the Library, engaging the services of AEC Environmental Pty Ltd who tested and audited the entire Library last Thursday and Friday. Besides the heat retardation located in the duct the test results returned were negative.
It was decided to immediately remove this duct and Council have engaged the services of McMahon Services to carry out this work. These works are due to be completed at the end of this week and, then AEC Environment will be able to do final testing and monitoring.
The Library school holiday programs that will continue this week include Mask Making, Mandala, Naidoc Week Sand Art and Boomerang Decorating.
Mayor Ryan said “We encourage library borrowers to hold their book returns until next week as the return slot is currently full and staff cannot enter the library to process these returns, please take advantage of the no late fees policy”.
