CBD revitalisation works update

Posted on 14 Jan, 2013

Work on the CBD Revitalisation project is continuing and works have now progressed to include the stage / sails area and into the northern end of the Mall.

Council CEO Rex Mooney said “The works are progressing as planned and Council asks the community to remain patient whilst the construction team do their best to minimise interruption.  Council apologises for this short term inconvenience and aims to stay on schedule.”

The personalised named pavers that line sections of the Mall are being collected and stored to be reused in features such as seating and street scaping.

There has also been a requirement to remove some smaller non indigenous trees and shade structures.  This is due to space and safety concerns for the new road.

Council will be planting more native trees and shrubs as part of the Parson Street bio-diversity corridor. The larger healthy trees are being kept and Council is endeavouring to keep the removal of trees to a minimum.

Rex Mooney also encourages residents and visitors to continue to support local business, “Council would like to remind residents that the northern end of the Todd Mall and Parsons street businesses will remain open during Mall works so please continue to use, visit and shop in the Todd Mall”

This $5 million dollar project is funded by the Northern Territory Government.
