Desert Festival Opening at the Night Market

Presented in partnership with the Alice Springs Town Council.
Get ready to kick off DesFest 2019 with a bang! Join us for the annual DesFest Opening at the first Night Market of the season. With an eclectic mix of some of Alice Springs’ finest musicians and performers to start the festival right.

With performances from Coloured Stone, Eastern Arrernte Band, Rusty and the Infidels, Zimbabwean Outback Melodies, Alice Swings, King Marong, Drum Atweme, Bradshaw Primary School and so much more! Bring the whole family, grab a bite to eat and settle in for a night of music and dance to celebrate the Spring season.

Coloured Stone is one of Australia’s premier Aboriginal bands, originally from Koonibba, South Australia on the Nullarbor Plains, they are now recognised world wide. Bunna Lawrie and Coloured Stone have over 40 years of touring under their belt, playing at communities and festivals and keeping it real. Every performance from Bunna and Coloured Stone is a memorable musical experience, full of Aboriginal culture and meaning.
Eastern Arrernte are a well established local band from the community of Santa Teresa, 80 km from Alice Springs. They sing songs in Eastern Arrernte as well as English – and their lyrics revolve around themes of place, country, family and nature. They have written many songs, and have recorded some of them out in Santa Teresa with Francis Dischenko.

Zimbabwean Outback Melodies are a ladies choir group consisting entirely of professional nurses who enjoy entertaining and sharing the love of African music & dance with their Alice Springs community. The group members share the same back ground and speak 2 major indigenous languages of Zimbabwe. The love of music and dance, as well as the passion for sharing the music, is part of their African roots. Music is a universal language and the group believes in reaching out to the Community with song.

This is a free all ages event.
