The real cost of dumping

Alice Springs Town Council would like to remind residents that the real cost of dumping rubbish is taking its toll on our environment.

Manager of Council’s Ranger Unit, Kevin Everett said “Unfortunately there has been a recent spike in rubbish dumping which is not only breaking a by-law but has a massive impact on our local environment.”

The fine for those caught dumping can exceed $685 (up to $68,500 for companies), which pales in comparison to the $3 fee for a load of domestic general waste.

In recent month Council has established recycling bays at the landfill in an effort to encourage more recycling, whilst disposal of domestic green waste is free.

“Our message is clear - if you dump your rubbish, you will get caught and it will cost more then a load of rubbish would have cost to take to the tip.  There’s simply no excuse.” said Kevin Everett.

We encourage the community to dob in a dumper as the cost to our environment is just too great.  Call the Ranger team on 8950 0500.
