Upcoming information session — Monday 22 January:

The nbn will be hosting an information session in the Library on Monday 22 January from 12pm, this is a great opportunity to ask questions and speak to an nbn representative. For further details of the event go to http://www.alicesprings.nt.gov.au/events/2018 – 01-22/nbn-community-information-session

Avoid disconnection: switch to the nbn™ network

The nbn™ network is designed to give you access to fast, reliable internet and landline phone services, no matter where you live.*
It will replace most existing landline phone and internet networks in your area and most landline phone and internet services will stop working once the existing network is disconnected.
In Alice Springs, the landline service will begin disconnecting between January 19 and February 23, 2018.
So, even if you only have a home phone, it’s important to speak to a phone or internet provider about switching as soon as your home or business is ready to connect.†
The landline system will not disconnect in those areas covered by nbns Sky Muster satellite service.

The rollout of the nbn™ network will involve new technologies and some existing devices may not be compatible with these at all times.
The following services will be impacted when the existing network is disconnected:

  • Landline phones
  • Landline internet
  • Medical alarms and emergency call systems
  • Monitored security alarms
  • EFTPOS and ATMs
  • Fax machines and TTY devices

The future of Australia’s broadband is here
The nbn™ network is Australia’s exciting new internet and landline phone network. It’s designed to give you access to fast and reliable internet and phone services, no matter where you live.*
This incredible technology has been rolled out in Alice Springs and surrounds.
Fixed line services are available to nearly 11,000 residences and businesses in Alice Springs.
All properties not on the fixed line service now have access to nbn’s Sky Muster satellite service.

What you need to do to connect to services over the nbn™ network

  1. Check whether your premises is ready to connect at nbn.com.au/check
  2. Contact a phone or internet service provider about switching to a plan over the nbn™ network
  3. If your premises is not ready to connect yet, register for email updates at nbn.com.au/register
  4. Find a list of providers at nbn.com.au/serviceproviders

Register your medical/fire alarm or lift emergency phone

Call the provider/manufacturer of the equipment
Ask whether your equipment will work over the nbn™ network, and what alternative solutions are available.
Be sure to test your equipment once any changes are made.†
Prepare for power blackouts
Equipment connected over the nbn™ network will not work during a power blackout. Consider having
an alternative form of communication handy, such as a charged mobile phone or your existing copper
phone line, especially if you don’t have good mobile phone coverage at your home or business.
If you have safety-critical equipment (e.g. a medical alarm, monitored fire alarm or lift emergency phone),
speak to your equipment provider about alternative solutions.

* Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ network, depends on the technology used to deliver
services to your premises. Other factors outside the control of nbn can also have an impact, like your equipment and signal
quality, software, your broadband plan, and your service provider’s network.

† Services provided over the nbn™ network will be replacing phone and internet services provided over most of the existing
landline networks, including copper and the majority of HFC networks within the fixed line footprint. Services provided over
existing fibre networks (including in-building, health and education networks) and some special and business services may
not be affected. To find out if your services will be affected, please contact your current phone or internet provider. The
disconnection date is subject to change. For more information, visit nbn.com.au/switchoff or call 1800 687 626.
