MEDIA RELEASE - JANUARY 2020 YES, THIS FEBRUARY TRAVELLING FILM FESTIVAL RETURNS TO ALICE SPRINGS WITH THE WORLD’S BEST CINEMA! Travelling Film Festival (TFF), the regional tour of Sydney Film Festival, will return to Alice Springs from 26 Feb—1 March 2021 at Alice Springs Cinema. The program will showcase eight acclaimed feature films, two superb documentaries and four exceptional Australian short films, direct from last year’s Sydney Film Festival and other major international festivals. “Against all odds, with such strange times and resulting cancellations of some of our other regional festivals last year, we are thrilled to continue our 2021 tour in the Territory with Alice Springs this February! Patrons will get to watch on the big screen the local premieres of all the extraordinary films on our program, from Australian and international talents. We hope you enjoy the program and wish you a safe and fun Festival.” Said Sanam Rodrigues, Travelling Film Festival Manager. Headlining the programme is Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra, the brand new Australian documentary that explores the rise of a small Australian company to a world renowned cultural powerhouse complete with specially curated dance sequences that Bangarra is famous for. Other stories from around the globe include: Poland’s Oscar nominee for Best International Film Corpus Christi; Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom, direct from Berlinale 2020, this gem from Bhutan was beautifully shot in the high-altitude peaks of the Himalayas; a cinematic gem from the Toronto Film Festival, Kuessipan, is a poignant coming-of-age story of two girls from a rural Quebec Innu community; award winning French film, Only the Animals, by director Dominik Moll, is a must- watch engrossing, mystery thriller; plus The Perfect Candidate, directed by Saudi Arabia’s first female director Haifaa Al-Mansour, is a revealing look at the changing role of women in Saudi Arabia. Also included in the program is The Climb - witty and smart, this hilarious prize-winning buddy comedy follows two bickering best friends as they drag themselves painfully through adulthood; the documentary Ottolenghi and the Cakes of Versailles, a dazzling ode to history, art and the decadence of the dessert; Director Thomas Vinterberg’s award winning film Another Round features the superb Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt, Hannibal) in a tragicomedy combining science, alcohol and midlife defiance; and to round off the program, Charlatan, following Jan Mikolášek, a towering figure of Czech history, whose life is intertwined with significant events in history. This year TFF is also proud to present an extraordinary Australian short film selection, including Ayaan, a Sydney Film Festival 2020 finalist, and the Screenability initiative, showcasing provocative cinema by filmmakers with disability with Diving In, Safety Net and Groundhog Night. Tickets to TFF Alice Springs are now on sale. With a Flexipass and Full Subscription patrons can watch the whole program and save up to 30%. Capacity is strictly limited.
